A Tribute to Our Beloved Dog: Crafting a Special Wood Box to Honor His Memory
Просмотров 1,4 тыс.Год назад
As of the posting of this video it has been one year since Cody's passing. I knew right away that I wanted to build a box for his remains. I found the curly maple right away. However, the wood for the lid took me a long time to find. I was looking for the "right" piece. I originally was looking for a piece of walnut but finally settled on the wood used. And like the video says, I'm not real sur...
Wood Turning Maple - A Surprising Adventure!

One Mistake Leads to Two End Grain Cutting Boards
Просмотров 1,7 тыс.2 года назад
These two end grain cutting boards started with just one order from a customer for an all maple end grain board. During the process in making her board I made a mistake. Not the end of the world though. Luckily I had plenty of maple strips already cut up thinking I would make another board anyway. So with those strips I replicated her board to my liking and modified the first board with some Pu...
VERY heavy butcher block project coming soon!

This old butcher block belongs to a hunting cabin I go to. We decided on my last trip there for me to take it home and rebuild it into a table. This will be a long build so I might do a multi step video series on this project. Stay t...

    Curious why you couldn’t just set your fence at that thin distance from the blade and run your piece along the fence?

    • @LTDWoodworks
      @LTDWoodworks 12 дней назад

      It’s because it’s not easy or safe to push a thin piece past the blade. If you were to just push the main piece through the blade and once the thin piece is free of the main portion it would stop between the spinning blade and the fence. While it’s stopped there it also as a HIGH chance of being shot back towards you if you’re standing behind the blade (which you should try not to do anyways). So, this method is also about safety. Hope this makes sense.

    • @GK-ee7mw
      @GK-ee7mw 12 дней назад

      Thanks for the reply. Yeah I guess that does make sense. Could you also put a stop block against the fence and use the miter gauge? That way you’re repeatable and accurate but the thin off cut isn’t binding ?

    • @LTDWoodworks
      @LTDWoodworks 26 дней назад

      Ya, I have thought about water. This “new” home is 10 years old and basically shows no signs of water. So I don’t know. One wall has the driveway above it so couldn’t be any coming from there. The other wall has an exterior set of steps around 3 foot wide so I don’t see much coming from that side either. Assuming I keep the joint sealed. Anyway… guess I’ll keep doing research and go from there. Thanks for watching!👍

    • @richs5422
      @richs5422 25 дней назад

      @@LTDWoodworks Sorry, wasn't clear. Water vapor comes through concrete, so you need insulation and a vapor barrier. Spray foam provides both, but that's just one option.

    All I do is glue a piece of edge grain to the front and back of the board, a sacrificial piece if you will. And of course, as you said take very small amounts off each pass. Once finished just cut the sacrificial pieces off with the table saw. Wa-la, no damage to the end grain pices of the board.

    Protip: The router wanted to pull away from the guide because you were going counter-clockwise when cutting the groove. Cut your juice groove clockwise and the bit will want to pull the router into the guide, meaning that it will stay straight.

    • @LTDWoodworks

      Thank you. Ya, I’ve never actually seen a case of something bad happening. So, I can only speculate that a large chunk of wood could break off and jam itself somewhere around the spinning blade. I don’t see the planer exploding but could possibly see some damage. So, I guess I to would like to see what actually happens.

    There are so many of these kerf makers on the market from the really expensive ones by manufacturers like the one from Bridge City Tool works which looks really well made to the Chinese knock offs. There are also some really nice designs here on You Tube. Some like the one by Tamar 3 x 3 custom is pretty fancy smancy ( a technical term). This is by far my favorite design because the main parts are just a nice piece of hard wood that most of us have laying around, and also a small piece of left over t track. Who doesn't love a clean and simple design? Great job!

    Not sure why the pieces have to be the same width? Either piece can be any width can’t it? As long as the fence doesn’t move? Once you have a piece notched, can’t you push any piece up against that and the fence to make a spline? Great tip either way!!!
